I have been feeling a bit lost and alone lately. Thanks for this site and, mostly, for your attitude.

I was a substance abuser but got "saved" into a rigidly structure religious environment. Our "church" was a tight knit and authoritarian led one, and yes, would have probably come close to qualifying as a cult, though we found many reassuring qualities. The final straw came from our adherence to one belief: They did not believe in doctors.

Our daughter got cancer -- and we ultimately lost her.

It was a wake-up call for us!! Christ's Church of the Restitution, for all its good, was NOT a "mainstream" denomination. (Though it did claim to believe basic orthodox Christian doctrines, such as the Trinity, the Virgin Birth, etc.)

I really liked your web site. I agree with most of the facts you stated in you site. I would like for the mental profession to be more educated in this area. Living with this condition I have found it difficult to find any information . Finding a therapist is as difficult as understanding my MPD. I would like to share my thoughts and views with people with MPD. If you could please reply with you thoughts and comments. Thank you for you time and the web site.

I was first told I was manic/depressive, this was in 1981. I do suffer with this illness but i am on a good medication. After years and sevral stays at the Psych-Ward, I was finally diagnosed with MPD. I need to find more info on dissociative sympmtoms- I am not sure if what I am experiencing is dissociative symptoms or something else.

I am in desperate need of a chat room for multiples. I have no one outside of my therapist to talk to. I am really alienated from the whole world and really want to know if what I am going through is typical. I am still not sure it's multiplicity. My therapist and Doctor have no problems. I have been in therapy for this since this past November. There are no groups up here that get together and not much help.

My legal name is Mary Catherine Kasal but I have many alters. The most infameous are Clarissa and Jane althouth there are several child alters and a few male alters. I have recently been suffering from switching on a regular basis after I witnessed the suicide of my father-in-law. He shot himself in the head instead of suffering from the pain of lung cancer. I can understand the wanting to leave the world before things really get bad but I wish that he would have let us know that he wanted to leave, I am sure that we could have gotten him some pills to do the job in a more dignified way. It was refeshing to find a page that addresses the fact that we're not all like the therapists think we should be, or what you see on t-v (if that's even real). Things aren't at all typical for me and my husband. I wondered if it was just me. Thanks.

I also have some health issues which are a bit confusing. They include narcolepsy (sleeping syndrome) and fibromyalgia (pain similar to a severe case of the flu or being out in a blizzard until your bones feel like they are freezing). My question is: does anyone have these two or other syndromes which seem to fade and return dependent on person in charge at the moment? I also have other health concerns with other parts of my group. Seeking conversation with others who have similar difficulties and how you are managing them.

i was diagonosied this past year with MPD....we know for sure of 8 "alters"...but highly suspect that there are many more...i am one of those who was sexually abused and the MPD diagnosis...or however you look at it...devoloped as a result....

I'm Sixteen years old and have spent most of my life in chaos. Starting with my constant battle against depression at the age of six or seven. About three years ago I learned my mother was a drug addict(codeine) and had a horrendous past which no one should have had to endure. I also learned my father who I never got aloong with very well was an alcoholic in denial. As if this wasn't enough just a few months ago I learned that my mother the closest person to me and the person who has kept me alive has MPD. This wasn't a great shock to me in fact it made a lot of sense. Right away I could identify the various alters. My feelings toward her haven't changed at all. It's nice to know that there are others out there especially when I live in a town with a population of 700 people all of whom are very close minded people who would freak if they knew the truth about my family.

By the way, where are you?

I have a good friend who's a multiple and am looking for treatment centers in Florida who take medicaid. the place she went 2 years ago was bought out and no longer takes medicaid. She's hving symptoms that are making her very uncomfortable and feels tha t now she can go to be incorporated/integrated. Whatever (can you tell I'm a singleton? you won't hold that against me, will you?) :o)

I really love my friend, and I'd like to help her find someone to help her. Trust, as you know, is a real issue here, and already she is stressing over perhaps putting her "care" into people's hands she doesn't know.... all because the "other" hospital won't take medicaid anymore.

Hi, everyone. This isn't easy for me. Only my wife and my old friend Discord know I'm a multiple. I'm 30 now, and I've been aware of my plurality for 15 years. Far from troubling me, it's been a real blessing. There are 3 in me. I'm the host, and I'm the one most people deal with on a daily basis. There are two alters, one who operates strictly in the realm of rational thought, impervious to emotional distraction, and one who can cope with emotional overloads that would overwhelm the host. I'm signing in because it feels good to admit this is who I am openly, and because it's hard not being able to tell a family who wouldn't understand, and because I want people to know that dissociation can be a positive thing. I wish all of you who share this unique synthesis the strength I've found in it. We are one.

I've been looking into multiplicity because I have several friends who are households (gee, I have something like eight friends in three bodies...) I've found that, while I don't think I'm truly multiple, I'm decidedly not a true singleton either. My non-singleton state is not the result of abuse or trauma, it appears to be a natural state for me. I'm highly creative and highly suggestible, and I think my drifting off into other states, personae or worlds is just going to be par for the course for an author. None of these personae tend to last beyond the creation of the novel/series/short story/roleplay that they're clamouring for, nor do they like ot interact with the 'real world' or the people which inhabit 'my' world, which is why I don't consider myself a 'true' multiple. But they -are- a part of my personal experience. Which is why I don't consider myself a 'true' singleton. I'm just a child who still has imaginary friends and still plays pirates in the backyard... at age 29.

I was doing a research paper for psychology class on the topic of mulitiple personality disorders and came upon this page. I thank all the people who have this disorder and were willing to come forward with it. Those people are strong examples of people who are brave enough to face the worst and accept themselves. I hope that this page and the Astraea page will help people who are supposedly *normal* to accept those who sometimes just can't help how they act. I give high praise to the people that set up this page and are able to help everyone learn more about these disorders. Modern society needs a lesson in understanding and morality.

I lived for over 10 years with a person that I have now come to believe was a multiple. I have since left this person (though not because of her mpd) and am now living on my own and in a healthy relationship with a very nice man. I have always been interested in mpd and read whatever I can get my hands on. I know that I am not the only one who lives or has lived with a multiple. I would like to find other people through the web and share experiences and insight on living with multiples. This could be a great learning experience and a good support tool. I'm not really sure if this applies to Multiplicity, but I have had one or two voices talking in head for a few days now. Also, every now and again I find that I can't remember large periods of time (sometimes hours, sometimes days, once I couldn't remem ber anything from two weeks).

Well developed presentation of many issues. My own view is that multiple personality is possibly misnamed. Let's instead look at it as an ability to assume different points of view. It's an ability that could be developed and used to a person's benefit. Psychs call it a disorder solely so that can "treat it" with their fraudulent practices. i'm in the middle of trying to figure all this multiple stuff out. in alot of pain trying to make it all make some sense and how to live with it. still trying to figure out how i became multiple - no memories of abuse, but then, not many memories. wish i had more company figuring this out.

I am a senior Music Education major at IUP. I am presently taking a computer-based course as an education requirement. I am not really a multiple, but I have many friends who live in a multiple household. As a mono-brain, I often find it hard to know what to say. They tell me I never say anything that is unsettling, but I wonder if they would tell me if I did? I find i t very comforting that there is a place I can go, to maybe get a clue, limited though it may be, and some way that I can get a better idea of how I can be supportive.
